The Content Calendar Is Dead

When I first decided to launch OT+H, I created a perfectly obsessive social media calendar. When to post. What to post. When to cross-promote. Which reels would coordinate with which blog posts. It was organized. It was strategic. It was color-coded.

It was also sucking the life out of me.

I quickly discovered that creating one perfectly coordinated set of reels and stories could take more than three hours. Three hours! That is time I could spend designing an actual room, researching tile or searching through all of the Netflix options, only to land on the first thing I looked at 30 minutes previously.

More importantly, I realized I simply did not enjoy doing it. At all. Not even a little bit.

So, the content calendar has been respectfully—or perhaps aggressively—retired. You can hear me rant about it here if you so choose.

Instead, I’m going to post organically. Meaning: whenever I see, hear or think of something that makes me say, “Wait, that’s interesting. People should know about this.” Maybe it’ll be educational. Maybe it’ll be inspiring. Maybe it’ll be a tiny design detail that has annoyed me so deeply I need to discuss it publicly.

Will you see posts from me on a regular schedule? Absolutely not.

Will I post five times in one week and then disappear for three? Almost certainly.

But will the things I share be more genuine, more useful and much more enjoyable for me to create? Absolutely.

We’re embracing creative chaos over here. Welcome.
